How to Host a Mother’s Blessing: Tips from a Mid-MO Doula
I promise—just because I love a Mother’s Blessing celebration doesn’t mean I have anything against baby showers. (Okay, maybe I do have a small vendetta against that baby shower game where you smash different chocolate bars into diapers and have to guess the candy brand.)
But silly games aside, baby showers are a sweet way for a new mom to be celebrated and supported by her community. As a doula, I’m always looking for ways we can go even further in supporting families, and that’s why I’m a huge fan of Mother’s blessing celebrations. I love how the main focus of these parties is the woman being initiated by pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Yes, there’s still space for baby gifts and adorable onesies, but there’s also space to get real about what a woman needs on the journey of meeting her children. From prayer to meal prep, it’s a party that can be fully customized for the mom-to-be.
I wanted to go deep into this topic, so I wrote 5 Tips for Hosting a Mother’s Blessing for the Motherlove blog. I love the products and mission at Motherlove, and I’m always grateful for the chance to write about how our culture can deepen our care for mothers.
